Move Ahead with Your Education

The GPRC Academic Upgrading Department can help you earn the high school prerequisites you need to enter apprenticeship programs, and college-level or university courses on a full-time or part-time basis. We offer pre-high school and high school equivalency courses and GED testing that can help you start to move ahead with your post-secondary education.

Certificate of Grade 12 Equivalency

If you arrive at GPRC without a high school diploma, you can complete missing courses and then apply for a Certificate of Achievement in Grade 12 Equivalency. A minimum of two required Grade 12 equivalent subjects must be taken at GPRC.

GED Testing

We offer GED testing through the Learning Commons which accommodates and supervises internal and external examinations. In this capacity, both academic and non-credit examinations are hosted.

Admission Requirements

You must be 18 years of age or older in the semester in which you plan to attend the program. English and Mathematics placement assessments may be necessary in order to properly place you in your courses.

Placement Assessments

Placement assessments are written to determine if a student has the required academic skill to gain program admission, or placement in academic upgrading courses. You will be asked to write a placement assessment if:

• You have been out of school for two or more years.
• You received less than 60% in Alberta Education English 10-1, 20-1, 30-1 or in Alberta Education Mathematics 10C, 20-1, 30-1.
• You have not taken courses in the Alberta Education English 10-1, 20-1, 30-1 or Mathematics 10C, 20-1, 30-1.

Regular semester start dates are listed in the program dates section. Spring session courses may also be available if the demand is sufficient.
